Cat Frieda’s Winter Story in the City of Schärding
During the Christmas season of 2024, Schärding became the backdrop for a magical winter story: “The Little Cat Frieda in Search of Her Red Mitten.” Festively illuminated, life-sized lanterns beautifully showcased the texts by Alexandrea Hoffmann, the design by Jakob Huber, and my illustrations. Visitors could explore seven chapters at five different stations throughout the charming old town. The concept was developed in close collaboration between Jakob Huber and the city of Schärding.
Illuminated Lanterns
The high-resolution illustrations and texts were mounted on large, internally illuminated lanterns by the city of Schärding. This allowed visitors to experience Frieda’s winter story both during the day and at night as they strolled through the city.

Cat Frieda
The little cat Frieda is a cat statue that regularly changes its location in Schärding, playfully “wandering” through the city. For the 2024 winter story, I created an illustrated version of Frieda. Her character design stays as true to the statue as possible while incorporating adjustments to best tell her story.
