Illustrations for the alleweltKIDS magazine by Missio Austria
Each year, Missio Austria publishes the children’s magazine alleweltKIDS. Each issue focuses on a country where the Catholic organization supports aid projects. In recent years, I’ve had the opportunity to create most of the illustrations for the magazine—including the cover and the hidden-object illustration featured in every issue. The illustrations shown here are from the 2023 and 2024 editions, which highlight India and Madagascar, bringing children in German-speaking regions closer to the local ways of life and challenges faced by people there.
Animals, Food, Culture, and More
Each country has its own unique features, and each issue of alleweltKIDS introduces new ways of life. It highlights not only the challenges people face locally, which the aid projects aim to address, but also the vibrant sides of life that appeal to young readers: What do people eat? What kind of music do they listen to? Are there special customs? And what animals live there?
Summed Up by a Picture
Each issue includes a hidden-object illustration that playfully summarizes the magazine’s content. Characters from the issue are hidden within the scene, familiar places and animals can be rediscovered, and stories from the magazine come alive in the details. This hidden-object illustration is always a special challenge — and I also learn a lot about each country through the research involved.
