Character Design for Chatbot Bert of Salzburg AG Tourism
Salzburg AG Tourism has introduced a chatbot on their website, 5schaetze.at, to help visitors of the five attractions – Festungsbahn, Mönchsberg Elevator, Museum Wasserspiegel, St. Wolfgang Ship Transport, and Schafbergbahn – get quick and easy answers to all their questions about activities. I had the pleasure of creating the character design for chatbot “Bert” and delivering all accompanying illustrations.
Bert: A chatbot with personality
The chatbot comes to life through its appearance and name – Bert, short for Berthold – giving it a human-like personality. This makes interacting with it not only easier but also more engaging for users. To bring Bert to life, I designed him in various poses and with different facial expressions. Whether he’s smiling warmly, curiously asking questions, or helpfully explaining something, each illustration helps to present Bert as a friendly and approachable digital assistant.

The chatbot’s goal is not only to provide information but also to offer a welcoming and approachable experience through its friendly and appealing design. The chatbot character was created to guide website visitors with charm and warmth, combining modern digital communication with the unique experiences of the five treasures.
